Supercrawl 2024 with Hamilton's Cable 14

sariKNOTsari Supercrawl 2024: Empowering Women Through Timeless Fashion

During the vibrant and energetic atmosphere of Supercrawl 2024, Priya Mohan, the founder of sariKNOTsari, joined Hamilton’s Cable 14 to share the inspiring story behind her brand. sariKNOTsari, known for its upcycled, size-inclusive clothing made from vintage saris, embodies both sustainability and inclusivity.

Priya explained that the sari, a traditional Indian garment, is a simple rectangle of fabric that can fit any body shape through its versatile draping. sariKNOTsari takes this concept further, transforming vintage pure silk saris into stylish, adaptable garments that fit women of all sizes—from size 2 to 6X. This ensures that as a woman’s body changes over time, whether due to life events like pregnancy or simply natural aging, the clothing remains a comfortable and elegant fit.

At Supercrawl, sariKNOTsari was showcased both at their tent and store on James Street North, where Priya proudly displayed her creations. The brand’s clothing, like the boxy baby doll dress Priya wore during the interview, is designed to be both fashionable and functional. With styles ranging from tops and bottoms to kaftans and kimono jackets, every piece drapes beautifully, offering women freedom from the restrictive, form-fitting garments that dominate much of the fashion industry.

Priya also emphasized the sustainable ethos behind sariKNOTsari. Each garment is made from upcycled saris, some of which date back decades, preserving the fabric’s history while avoiding new textile production. This not only makes sariKNOTsari a sustainable choice but also allows each piece to carry the story of the women who wore the fabric before. The use of silk, known for its strength and breathability, makes the clothing ideal for regulating temperature, particularly beneficial for women experiencing hot flashes.

In the interview, Priya and her team, including marketing manager Shefali, highlighted the versatility of sariKNOTsari pieces. Shefali demonstrated how garments like the kimono sleeve jacket could be styled in multiple ways, offering women even more options to make each piece their own.

As Priya put it, sariKNOTsari is about empowering women by creating clothes that adapt to their bodies, rather than forcing women to conform to the clothes. This message of body positivity, sustainability, and timeless fashion was perfectly aligned with the spirit of Supercrawl, celebrating 16 years of showcasing local creativity and community pride in Hamilton.

With sariKNOTsari’s presence at Supercrawl, Priya’s vision for a better, more inclusive, and sustainable fashion industry continues to gain momentum, proving that women deserve clothing that fits both their bodies and their values.
